Photographs have a way of freezing not only images, but the cocky hauteur of youth. One day you will find the exuberance and enthusiam that you didn’t realize you had lost is looking back at you, in a picture someone captured of you many years ago. And you will recall that precise moment, captured in time; how you were always anxious to get on to the next day, when your tomorrows seemed to stretch on forever. There had been so many decisions that had not yet been made, and your future plans were wildly ambitious, but your age imparted an arrogance to believe that nothing, absolutely nothing, was impossible. “How many years since that picture?” you will think to yourself, as you flip the photograph over, looking for the date. You will pause to consider whether you lived up to your youthful expectations, but that answer is not one you will want to consider for long; instead you will wistfully sigh, and put the photograph away.
