Today’s word is flagitious which is an adjective that means:

1. shamefully wicked, as persons, actions or times; or

2. heinous or flagrant, as a crime; infamous.

While you are working on your creation, make sure to take adequate breaks to rest and consider your next task at hand. This is critically important after the first two levels have been completed, since the next step in the project will generally require less physical exertion but significantly more mental taxation. During these breaks you may find it useful to peruse the following books that, if you do not own, may borrow from your local library, assuming of course it is not closed due to the weather.

Snowpeople for Dummies is in it’s third reprint and there are many useful tips in this book for creating an above average snowperson, with such chapters as: Know yourself, Know Your Snowperson; Establishing a Snowperson’s Sexual identity; Sexual Orientation and Snow Sculptures; One Snowman is never enough; Naughty or Nice – Creating a Snowperson with Personality; Accoutrement Selections for Flagitious or Innocent Interpretations of Winter Sculptures; Entering Snowbuilding Competitions; and Mentoring Others on Snow(wo)man Building.

Another helpful guide, albeit outdated and controversial, is A Snowman for Every Season which was published in the early 1950’s and written by the French Irish adventurer, Jacque O’Alltrades, who while exploring the North Pole, apparently became bored and who, alas, became known as a male chauvinist when, in 1958, during an interview with Male Superiority Weekly, he publicly denounced Madame I. Mustbefree’s female interpretation of a snowwoman as an abomination and affront to all previous artists skilled in the craft.

Finally, Frosty the Snowman, a animated movie televised repeatedly over the past 40 years, on several channels, hundreds of times yearly between Halloween and New Year’s Day, provides a detailed overview of the characteristics of charm, elegance and formality that were once considered the standard definition of a snowman.
