Today’s word is flibbertigibbet which is a noun that means a chattering or flighty, light-headed person.

In some working worlds, company experience and loyalty is shunned in favor of the employee that is recruited by headhunting firms, because an employee from outside sources is always considered more valuable than the in-house staff, in much the same way as the grass is always thought to be greener in the yard next door.

In some working worlds, promotions are based on youth in a constant search for new ideas that will “shake things up”. Maturity and experience are rarely valued, but rather, thought of as negative overrated traits and dual obstacles to promotion that need to be overcome.

In some working worlds, the person that will be promoted has less to do with mission responsibility and project accomplishments, than the ability to hobnob successfully with senior staff; in this type of environment a woman would be well advised to hide any intelligence under the less intimidating costume of a flibbertigibbet.

In some working worlds, individual responsibility is shunned, authority is over-allocated yet inadequately delegated, and complex projects tend to pile up in incomplete stages because critical decisions will not or cannot ever be made.

In some working worlds, no one is working as much as everyone is posturing, and the employees toiling at lower levels, without leadership or direction, watch helplessly as nothing gets done and they become the scapegoats.
